Oh the weather outside is frightful…

The Day After Tomorrow

Ahh.. you know there are few feelings that are nicer than putting on a crisp tee, shorts and a fresh pair of white on white uptowns.. going outside and enjoying 70 degree weather. However… when it happens on January 8th in NYC the typical enjoyment is replaced with terror.. or at least it SHOULD be. To hell with these news anchors saying “enjoy it while you can” because you should have enjoyed it when it was around.. in the summer!

Before I continue, allow me to refresh the memory of those reading, about a movie called.. ‘The Day After Tomorrow’.. you might remember this being touted as “The Movie the Bush Administration doesn’t want you to see!” The movie was supposed to be a galvanizing force setting pop culture a blaze with concern for the baking planet and the threats that lie therein. People talked for a short while.. but another Jake Gylenhall movie (I AINT SPELLCHECKIN) had people talkin more.

The reason I bring up ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ is because the plot outline was based on actual scientific theory. That theory being the desalinization of the ocean, or basically lowering the salt content due to an increase of fresh water from melting polar ice caps, would cause a breakdown in the ocean currents that are responsible for moving warmer air from the equator to more northern climes. The theory goes on to propose that if the desalinization continues beyond repair, it can eventually trigger an ice age (no mike jones although you could argue that is just as tragic as the day after tomorrow), thus resulting in the ultimate dramatic irony. Of course it was sensationalized for Hollywood.. or was it?

The wooly mammoth was an elephant like creature that existed around 10,000 years ago. And hundreds were found seemingly instantly frozen with food half digested in their stomachs. It would take, by scientific estimate a temperature of -150 degrees Fahrenheit for this to happen.. and it needed to happed so quick as to not allow time for the animal to seek shelter, thus lending evidence to the possibility of a ‘day after tomorrow’ scenario actually taking place.

Melting glaciers at a rate so rapid few scientists concede that their projection of the giant ice sheets melting  in centuries is actually happening in decades and the rate is increasing exponentially. Stronger hurricanes and disrupted weather patterns aren’t happening because of Sun Spots.. Solar Wind.. El Nino.. Terrorism.. or Gangsta Rap. Shit is real.. how do we have about a week apart.. freezing advisories in miami and 70 degree weather in nyc, while cali is digging themselves from under feet of snow. Not to mention an actual TORNADO in Brooklyn last year. (In a related story Uncle Murda saw the Tornado, but gripped up, thus saving the day)

Wake up people.. realistically shits a wrap. Convenience for the present takes precedence over plight for the future. Just know that when St. Louis MO. becomes beach front property.. it will most likely be a bit past the point of no return.

  3. Before i go knock out lemme jus say… that to have a grasp and understand to an extent what is going down.. and Still to get up and do what you got to do in the face of such adversity isn’t pessimism but rather the definition of optimism.

  5. Yo aint nothing going to happen during our life as far as the polar caps.

^^ I like to take stock in my surroundings. In a country/world where elected official/leaders will blatenly lie to the public (like BK I refuse to spellcheck) its real important to check facts where and when you can which is why I find your statement very interesting. What do you base it on? Did you conduct research or are you just repeating what you heard on one of the countless non-bias ;) news shows? Me, I’m no scientist but I’ve lived in NY for the last 27 years and there is a drastic difference between what winter used to be just 10 years ago and what winter is now.

People walking around in shorts and t-shirts in the beginning of January in NY is bad enough but having below 0 temps one week and tropical weather the next should be enough to make you pause and consider the possibility that things may not be as rosy and benign as the weather man/president/favorite celebrity makes it seem.

  7. Couldn’t agree more, shit is alarming. I was speaking to a Professor in climate change and the environment and he was syaing that you’ll see a drastic change in climate and how we live in the next 50 years due to climate change. The end is nigh. I’m gonna start building an ark and growing a beard. Who wants in?

    ^^Thanks Professor Science, that’s reassuring.
