50 Cent taking on Marvel with ‘Trill League’ superhero series

According to Variety, Curtis ‘50 Cent‘ Jackson is producing an animated series of Black superheroes called Trill League. The show is based on a graphic novel by Anthony Piper and co-written by Jameel Saleem. The project is being developed by G-Unit Film & Television, 3Arts Entertainment and Lionsgate Television for a new streaming service, Quibi. The mobile streaming services is adding the series to it’s lineup of more than 50 original projects. Quibi is a short form streamer and shows will be aired 8-10 minute segments. The mobile streaming service will also feature short daily news and sports programming.

Saleem, who also wrote for South Park, says “Writing about Black superheroes is a dream come true for me.” Piper shared the sentiment saying he “couldn’t be more excited to fulfill this lifelong dream of creating a world with voices which reflected the one I came from.” According to the synopsis, the series is influenced by rap and hip-hop.

Trill League will premier in April 2020 when Quibi launches. Users will pay $5 monthly for an ad-supported version or $8 monthly without ads.
