Members of The Florida Federation of Republican Women are boycotting the popular daytime talk show, “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” because of Oprah Winfrey’s refusal to book Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin until after the election.
Ms. Winfrey had announced that she would not invite any candidate running for president or vice president on either ticket to appear on her show until after the November elections.
On Wednesday (Aug 10) Cindy Graves, First Vice President of the 4,500-member group, told “FOX & Friends” Ms. Winfrey’s decision not to have the Alaska governor on her program sooner was hypocritical.
“She is an icon, and set her herself up to be such a women’s rights and women’s issues person. To have the first vice president of our lifetime on the Republican ticket being a woman and to sit it out regardless of what her personal political beliefs were was disingenuous, we felt.”
Ms. Winfrey has been very open about her support for Ms. Palin’s political rival, Sen. Barack Obama, who’s running for President under the Democratic ticket. And although he has not appeared on her program since declaring his intention to seek the presidency, Ms. Winfrey has endorsed his candidacy.
