With the Sci-Fi Channel’s abrupt announcement earlier this year that their popular series “Stargate Atlantis” would be ending after this season, news has come out about the fate of the Stargate franchise.
The Hollywood Reporter announced that “28 Weeks Later” and “24: Redemption” actor Robert Carlyle has been cast in the lead role of the cable network’s new Stargate series, “Stargate Universe.”
Carlyle will star as Dr. David Rush, who leads of a group of soldiers, scientists and civilians trapped on a ship traveling through space.
Production will begin in February with a 2-hour premiere set for summer 2009.
