Singer/actress Jennifer Hudson and her sister Julia took to the stand yesterday to testify against William Balfour, their former brother-in-law, who is charged with killing their mother, brother and nephew.
The trial continues today, a day after the Academy Award-winning actress gave tearful testimony Monday recounting the violent crime that tore her close-knit family apart. Dressed all in black and wearing little make-up Hudson struggled at times to maintain her composure during a half an hour on the witness stand. Her voice cracked as she described how no one in the family wanted her sister, Julia, to marry Balfour. “We didn’t like the way he treated her, and I didn’t like the way he treated my nephew,” she testified.
Balfour is accused of fatally shooting Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson; brother Jason Hudson; and her 7-year-old nephew, Julian King, in October 2008 as an act of spite after Julia Hudson told him that she wanted a divorce.
