Rapper/producer Kanye West again showed the world money and fame doesn’t buy class when he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards last night (Sept. 13).

The 17-year-old country singer had just won the award for the Best Female Video prize for You Belong With Me, her ever first MTV award. As she began her acceptance speech West stormed the stage, declaring the award should have gone to singer Beyoncè.

Swift stood shocked as West grabbed the microphone from her mid-speech. “Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyoncè had one of the best videos of all time,” said before handing the microphone back to Swift, who was left speechless by the overly rude gesture.

West was lead out of the awards shortly afterward by MTV execs and later offered an apology to Swift on his blog:

“I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she’s in the bleachers! I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment! Beyoncè’s video was the best of this decade!!!!

“I’m sorry to my fans if I let you guys down!!!! I’m sorry to my friends at mtv. I will apologize to Taylor 2mrw (tomorrow). Welcome to the real world!!!! Everybody wanna booooo me but I’m a fan of real pop culture!!!… I’m still happy for Taylor!!!!… I really feel bad for Taylor and I’m sincerely sorry!!! Much respect!!!!!”

Later in the night, while receiving her own award, Beyoncè called Swift back on stage to finish her acceptance speech. “I don’t know him and I don’t want to start anything. I thought that I couldn’t love Beyoncè more than tonight and then that happened. They told me to stand by the side of the stage and I didn’t really know what was going to go down but I thought it was so wonderful and gracious of her.”
