Serena Williams is on the Wheaties box, y’all!

Despite being a super athlete, Serena Williams has never been featured on a Wheaties cereal box.

UNTIL RIGHT NOW!!

Not right right now, but soon. A statement from Williams (or a publicist/manager/assistant) posted on General Mills’ blog read, “I have dreamt of this since I was a young woman and it’s an honor to join the ranks of some of America’s most decorated athletes. I hope my image on this iconic orange box will inspire the next generation of girls and athletes to dream big.”

On Instagram Williams debuted the artwork for the box while honoring Althea Gibson, who became the first African-American female tennis player to appear on a box nearly two decades ago in 2001.

In 1956 Gibson the first African American to win a Grand Slam title. Fast forward to 2019 and Serena Williams is one of the most successful and celebrated athletes in any sport, having won 23 Grand Slam singles and four Olympic gold medals.

So when does the Serena Wheaties cereal box will hit shelves? They should the shelves of your local Kroger/Pathmark/Safeway in the next week or two.
