According to reports, Gray was arrested in Arizona after a 911 call from his wife. The Goodyear Police Department said Gray’s wife claimed she had been assaulted by her husband at their home in Goodyear, AZ around 10:15 p.m.
Per the press release by the police, a 911 call was placed on Sunday night describing a woman in distress who had flagged down a car at a gas station seeking help. The woman – Gray’s wife is not identified by name – had “numerous visible injuries” on her body. When police arrived, she told them that her husband had assaulted over several hours and strangled to the point of unconsciousness.
A SWAT team was dispatched to Gray’s residence and a nine-hour standoff ensued after Gray barricaded himself inside the home. He was taken into custody around 7AM on Monday.

Gray starred as Hakeem Lyon on the Fox program, Empire, alongside Jussie Smollett who played him brother. Last year Smollett was embroiled in his own legal drama after claiming he was assaulted by racists wearing “MAGA” hats while he was on a sandwich run at 2:00 in the morning.
Smollett’s claim, which sounded dubious to outside observers, was eventually discredited. He was later charged with filing a false report, prosecutors later dropped the case. The Chicago police department also sued the actor to recoup the cost of investigating his claim. Late last year Smollett filed a counterclaim against the department.
