Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz announced that he may be splitting with Def Jam Records after his next album. He made an appearance on The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music and spoke about wanting to be independent and have ownership of his work. 2 Chainz also said that he is willing to stick with the label depending on how negotiations go. “Who knows? I might stick around… for now I’m looking forward to possibly being independent by the end of the year and rocking out with my guys” he told Zane.

He says there is no bad blood between them and Def Jam, but that he is coming into a phase in life where he is more focused on ownership, “I been with Def Jam for a long time… That’s my home right there”

2 Chainz established himself in the industry as ½ of the Atlanta rap group, Playaz Circle. In 2012, he got his break with a verse on the triple Platinum single “Mercy” with label-mate, Kanye West. He became a solo artist that same year at Def Jam with his debut album, Based On a T.R.U. Story.
