Earlier this week, Megan Thee Stallion received her second Platinum plaque, for the anthem “Hot Girl Summer.” The Houston rapper flipped her contrived phrase into a hit with the help of Nikki Minaj and Ty Dolla Sign. The record debuted at #11 on Billboard Hot 100.
Meg was on Instagram celebrating the achievement. She posted the caption “Real Platinum Girl S*t” and tagged both Nikki and Ty. RIAA awarded Meg the first plaque for “Cash S**t” featuring DaBaby from her Fever mixtape. She also received a Gold plaque for her breakout record “Big Ole Freak” in July 2019.
The 25 year-old rapper and college student sat down with NPR’s Sidney Madden recently, and spoke about plans for her first album. She called recording an album a “commitment” but says she’s now ready. “I felt like my mixtapes were me flirting with my fans… I’m ready to settle down with an album.” The record is expected early next year.
