Jets’ Braylon Edwards arrested for DUI

NFL star Braylon Edwards was arrested at 5:15 in the morning on Tuesday (Sept. 21) during a traffic stop.

The Jets wide receiver was pulled over at the intersection of 34th street and 12th avenue in Manhattan by police after they determined the tints on his 2007 Range Rover were too dark. The traffic stop quickly escalated from a summons to a substantially more serious drunken-driving charge after cops smelled alcohol on Edwards. He was arrested after police administered a Breathalyzer test and his blood alcohol level came back as .16, twice the state’s legal limit of .08.

New York state law states that aftermarket tints are illegal if cops can’t see inside a vehicle.

The 27-year-old Edwards, who had just left a fund-raiser hosted by teammate Jerricho Cotchery, admitted to cops that he “had a couple of drinks,” adding, “We were just coming home from a party. What about if I just leave the car and take a cab and go home?”

Later in the day a sober Edwards was released on his own recognizance, telling reporters, “There will be plenty of time to talk. I’ll address everybody.”

Edward’s decision to get behind the wheel drunk made even less sense considering the Jets provide car service for players out on the town.

Edwards, who is on probation for a fight outside a Cleveland club last year, faces up to a year behind bars if he is convicted.
