Former Ohio State quarterback Terrell Pryor was stabbed over the weekend by his girlfriend and both have been arrested after the incident.

According to reports, Shalaya Briston was arrested early on Saturday morning, November 29, and charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault after an argument led to her plunging a kitchen knife into Pryor’s chest and shoulder. Pryor, 30, was taken to the hospital where he was placed in critical condition. Luckily, he was later downgraded to stable condition after undergoing surgery. Unluckily, he was placed under arrest for simple assault. Witnesses say, he started the fight.

According to a witness, trouble began when Briston returned to the Troy Hill apartment the couple share after a night out with friends. An argument began soon after, and then got physical. TMZ Sports reported that the fight ended up in the kitchen, where Briston picked up the knife and stabbed Pryor. Briston is claiming self-defense, with her attorney, Lee Rothman saying, “When a man puts his hands on a woman, and she is in fear, she has a right to defend herself.” Police said Briston appeared to have a bruise on her nose, and was missing two false fingernails.

Pittsburgh judge, Jeffrey A. Manning, on Wednesday ordered Briston, 24, held without bond, calling her a danger to the community. She’s expected back in court on Dec. 12. Briston has been charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder. Pryor is expected to make a full recovery.

Pryor was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in September, but was later waived by the team.
