Oprah Winfrey made an appearance on the TODAY with Hoda & Jenna on Friday to defend her friend Gayle King. King as you all may know by now, has received backlash from the public about her recent interview with former WNBA star Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant.

Celebrities like 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg came after King for the interview, with Snoop making comments that some consider threatening, “back off, b****, before we come get you”. Some people may have taken those words to heart because King, according to Winfrey, has started to get death threats.

“She’s not doing well and feels that she was put in a really terrible position,” Winfrey said. “Because that interview had already ran and in the context of the interview, everyone seemed fine, including Lisa Leslie.”

Like King, Winfrey still insists that it was the network’s editing, not King’s questions, that was to blame for the social media backlash. But as far as King goes, Winfrey is not pleased at how King is being attacked. Winfrey says King now has to travel with security.
