Nathaniel Hale, a.k.a. Nate Dogg barely escaped being a guest of the California correctional department today after a judge raised his bail during a court appearance on charges of stalking his estranged wife.
Mr. Hale was arrested on June 23 after a 911 call from his wife, Latoya, alleging the hip-hop crooner was chasing after her on a Los Angeles freeway. He faces charges on two felony counts of making criminal threats, one felony count of stalking and one misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended license. He appeared before a Judge in a wheelchair, the result of a stroke he suffered 6 months ago.
Mr. Hale was initially released on $50,000 bond, but Superior Court Commissioner Joel Wallenstein doubled the bail amount to $100,000. Mr. Hale was remanded into custody until he paid the additional $50,000. He was later released and ordered to stay 100 yards away from his wife.
Mr. Hale is expected back in court on August 1st when the judge will determine if the case will go to trial.
