Ne-Yo Gets Payback for Failed R. Kelly Concert

Ne-Yo

Singer/songwriter Ne-Yo has had his day in court. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge awarded the “Because of You“ singer, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, $700,000 in damages in connection to R. Kelly’s 2007 “Double Up” concert tour.

Mr. Smith had argued that the promoter, Rowe Entertainment Inc., unceremoniously kicked him off the tour, allegedly because Mr. Kelly did not want the younger singer to upstage him.

Mr. Kelly denied the allegations and was not named in the lawsuit.
