Papoose is no Michael Scofield. The Brooklyn rapper was caught by authorities, in a lame Prison Break attempt, trying to sneak a handcuff key into Rikers Island prison for his fiancée, Remy Ma, real name Reminisce Smith.

Ms. Smith and Papoose, real name Shamele Mackie, had planned to marry yesterday (May 12) in a prison-arranged ceremony, but the planned nuptials were canceled when guards discovered Mr. Mackie was trying to smuggle in a handcuff key, purportedly to break his bride free.

A spokesperson for the prison contacted by New York Daily News stated, “A wedding was scheduled today and a visitor to that wedding service was found to be in possession of jail contraband so the wedding was canceled… The key that was found today easily opened handcuffs that we and other law enforcement officials use.”

Ms. Smith is being held at Rikers Island until her sentencing. She was found guilty on assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion charges in March for the late-night shooting of an acquaintance outside an eatery in 2007. She is facing up to 25 years in prison.

While no charges were drawn against Mr. Mackie, he has been banned from visiting the prison for six months.
