Former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress arrived in court yesterday to be sentenced for the shooting incident inside of a Manhattan club last November, Burress shot himself in the leg after a gun he was carrying in his pocket accidentally went off.

Burress, 32, was escorted into the courtroom by his pregnant wife Tiffany –who’s due to give birth in November, their 3-year-old son Elijah, and his father, who Burress was introduced to for the first time when he was 21, as well as other family members.

“I want to apologize to my family, my wife and my son and my [unborn] daughter, and I thank everybody for their support and my family for their prayers,” Burress said as he addressed the court.

As expected Judge Michael Melkonian sentenced the Super bowl hero to two years in prison. He was immediately led away by officers and taken to Rikers Island, where he spent the night in protective custody, while the facility where he’ll serve out his sentence is determined.

With good behavior, his earliest release date would be June 2011.
