Several sources have confirmed that Freaknik is returning to Atlanta this summer for a 3-day festival called “Freak World.” The event is planned for The Cascade Driving Range in Southwest Atlanta, from June 19-21 and will feature more than 40 performing artists and 100 vendors.

After 9, an Atlanta-based promotions company, brought the festival back last year for one day at Cellairis Amphitheater and nearly sold out the venue. This year event planners expect 10,000 fans per day.

Freaknik began in 1983 with a few participants and eventually grew into a massive street event, with thousands of attendees. Atlanta residents were not pleased with the level of crime and street parties that were associated with Freaknik and Mayor Bill Campbell eventually stopped the annual event. In 2010, Mayor Kasim Reed banned any and all activities related to Freaknik when event promoters attempted to bring the event back to life.
