Ice Cube confirms ‘Last Friday’ film on hold following John Witherspoon’s death; fate of ‘The Boondocks’ unknown

Ice Cube

We all enjoyed Ice Cube’s Friday, and Next Friday, and Friday After Next. And fans were gearing up for the next film in the franchise, Last Friday. Unfortunately, due to the passing of John Witherspoon, who played Mr. Jones, the father of Cube’s character, Craig, the movie may be in for a long delay.

Cube took to his twitter to blame New Line Cinema for the delay on the final movies production.

”Back to the drawing board since New Line Cinema was slow on green lighting the LAST FRIDAY script that was full of Mr. Jones. I’ve been pissed off about it since Spoon passed away.”

Cube’s options are limited. He has no choice —at the moment— but to wait on New Line Cinema, since they own all of the rights for the movie’s distribution.

The Friday film have become cult classics. Along with Cube and Witherspoon, the film series also starred Chris Tucker, Regina King, Mike Epps, Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister Jr., Nia Long, Paula Jai Parker, and Faizon Love.

Last Friday isn’t the only production that’s been halted due to Witherspoon’s passing. He was also the voice behind the grandad character from The Boondocks which was scheduled to return to television in February 2020 after a long hiatus.
